The Kremidas band shares a long, rich history in the Indianapolis music
scene. Dave Bigley, Josh Pless, Gary Rakow and, of course, Jim Kremidas
are colorful threads in an ever-growing tapestry of bands and musicians.
Those bands include The Tone Pigs, The Spirtles, The Earthbones/Earthtones,
Jam Sammich, Lab3, Mysteries Bloom plus many talented musicians like Rick Freeman, Greg Ziesemer, John Zink, Buddy Cage, Amy Lashley,
Cory Hill, Ann McWilliams and many more.
Jim’s playing and especially his steel guitar have been heard locally with
all the bands listed above. By playing with so many of these bands he has
been able to connect with the talented guys who now make up Kremidas.
Dave Bigley on lead guitar and backing vocals has played for 20 years now.
He’s logged hours with the likes of the Earthtones/Earthbones, Lefty Bates
and steel guitar master Buddy Cage. Dave met Jim when the Tone Pigs were
looking for a steel player. Dave has also played with the legendary
mandolin player Yank Rachel and bands such as Liquid Circumstance, The
Spud Puppies and all of the bands listed above. He is the glue that pulled
the Kremidas band together.
Gary Rakow, the beat behind the band has been playing drums and percussion
(and a little guitar and piano ) for 30 years. His music career started
with the U. S. Air Force band and from there went on to play with the many
of the bands above plus the Slow Moving Humans. Gary says the gig that
changed his life was in 1998 at Chubby’s Club LaSalle playing with the
Earthbones. That’s where he had his “drum zen” experience.
Josh Pless rounds out the quartet on bass and backing vocals. He has
fourteen years of playing the bass behind him. Josh’s influences range
from Phil Lesh to Geddy Lee, John Paul Jones, Paul McCartney and of course
Stanley Clarke. He’s also played in a variety of Indianapolis based bands
like The Prisoners, Liquid Circumstance, The Speakers (who later became
The Gay Black Republicans) and many of the bands listed above. Dave Bigley
once again is the magnet that drew Josh into the group.
